General tab (Training Options dialog box)

 

Use this tab to specify general settings for training neural networks.

 

Backpropagation

Specifies the frequency of update for the network connection weights. Select either Presentation Based or Epoch Based.

 

Presentation Based

Indicates that network connection weights are updated after every presentation.

 

Epoch Based

Indicates that network connection weights are updated after every epoch.

 

Selection Mode

Specifies the mode by which sets of inputs are selected for network presentation. Select Sequential, Random Fixed, or Random Variable.

 

Sequential

Indicates that sets of input values are selected sequentially from the list of input values. When you select this option, inputs are selected sequentially, according to the selected Iteration Mode and Iteration Order values.

 

Random Fixed

Indicates that sets of input values are selected from a fixed list of randomly ordered input values. When you select this option, inputs are selected from a random list of input values according to the selected Iteration Mode and Iteration Order values.

 

Random Variable

Indicates that every set of presented input values is randomly selected from the original list of input values. Select this option if you want every set of input values to be randomly selected.

 

 

Iteration Mode

Specifies the direction and order of iteratation during training.

 

Circular

Select this option to iterate the training set from beginning to the end for every epoch.

 

Moving Circular

Select this option to advance the starting point of the training set by one after every epoch.

 

Pendulum

Select this option to reverse the order of iteration after every epoch.

 

Iteration Order

 

Forward

Select this option to specify a forward order of iteration through the training set. When you select this option, the input/output pairs are selected in increasing order from the training set.

 

Backward

Select this option to specify a backward order of iteration through the training set. When you select this option, the input/output pairs are selected in decreasing order from the training set.

 

Presentation Options

 

Repeat Presentations

Type in this box the number of times you want to repeat every presentation in an epoch. A value of zero in this box specifies that presentations are not repeated.

 

Step Waiting Period

 

Step Period

Type in this box the period at which you want to apply step rates.

 

Period Base

Specifies the length of the wait period.

 

Presentations

Select this option to specify waiting step periods in terms of presentations.

 

Epochs

Select this option to specify waiting step periods in terms of epochs.
