Use this tab to add noise to the network input values during training.

Options

Never Add Noise

Indicates that the software does not add noise to the input values. Select this option if you do not want to add noise to the network input values during training.

Add Noise Randomly

Indicates that the software randomly adds noise to the input values. Select this option to randomly add noise to the network input values during training.

NoteIf you select this option, noise is added a Noise Factor number of times on the average.

Always Add Noise

Indicates that the software adds noise to the input values at every presentation. Select this option to add noise to the network input values at every presentation during training.

Details

Noise Factor

Indicates the amount of noise to add to the input values as a factor of the normal distribution of the input values. Type a number between 0 and 1 for the amount of noise you want to add to the input values.

As an example, if you specify 0.5 in this box, during training Predictive Systems Lab generates a normal random number for the mean and standard deviation of the input values, and adds 0.5 times this number to the input values before presenting the values to the neural network.

NoteIf you specify zero in this box, noise generation is turned off.

Allow Noiseless Epochs

Indicates that the software allows a certain number of noiseless epochs before adding noise to the input values. Check this box to specify a certain number of noise-free epochs before adding noise to the input values.

Noiseless Epochs

Indicates the number of noiseless epochs to allow before adding noise to the input values. Type the number of noise-free epochs to allow.

NoteThis option is not available when the Allow Noiseless Epochs box is clear.

Allow Finite Noise Epochs

Indicates that noise is added only through a finite number of epochs. Check this box to allow noise for a finite number of epochs.

NoteSelecting this option turns off noise generation when the number of epochs with noise is reached during network training.

Epochs With Noise

Indicates the number of epochs through which Predictive Systems Lab is to add noise to the input values. Type the number of epochs through which you want noise added to the input values.

NoteThis option is not available when the Allow Finite Noise Epochs box is clear.

Noise Before Noiseless

Indicates that the specified number of epochs with noise is applied before the specified number of noiseless epochs. Check this box if you want Predictive Systems Lab to apply noise before allowing noise-free epochs.

NoteThis option is only available when the Allow Noiseless Epochs and Allow Finite Noise Epochs options are selected. If the Cycle Noise option is clear, the software defaults to just adding noise for the number of epochs with noise before noise generation is turned off.

Cycle Noise

Indicates that the software continuously cycles the number of indicated noiseless epochs and the number of indicated epochs with noise. Check this box to continuously cycle between noise and no noise.

NoteThis option is only available when the Allow Noiseless Epochs and Allow Finite Noise Epochs options are selected.

TipYou can turn noise generation on and off at will throughout the life of a neural network.
