Math Operations dialog box

Use this dialog box to carry arithmetic and logical operations between series in Predictive Systems Lab documents, as follows:

1.Select the type of operation you want to perform:

Arithmetic

Select this option to specify you want to carry an arithmetic operation between the series, and from the list below this option, select the operation in question.

Logical

Select this option to specify you want to carry a logical operation between the series, and from the list below this option, select the operation in question.

2.Specify a Series Context for the operation:

Paired Series

Select this option to specify that the input range consists of two lists of series. The software carries out the operation by pairing the elements in the first list with the elements in the second list.

NoteOperations on paired series follow the notation Operand1 OP Operand2 when carried, where Operand1 is your first input range, OP the selected operation, and Operand2 your second input range.

The combined length of the first range of series must equal the combined length of the second range of series.

Multiple Series

Select this option to specify that the input range consists of one list of series. The software carries out the operation by matching series elements.

NoteOperations on multiple series follow a left-to-right order of evaluation as ((Series1 OP Series2) OP Series3) OP ..., where Series1 is the first series found in the input range, Series2 the second, and so on.

A minimum of two series must be resolved within the input range.

This option is not suitable for logical XOR operations across more than two series unless the result from the stated order of evaluation is acceptable to your.

Refer to Specifying Input Arguments for additional information on this subject.

3.Specify an input range for the operation:

Valid Input Range

Provides a reference to the extent of the data available in the currently active worksheet. Use this range as a guide for typing valid extents in the Input Range, Input Range 1 and Input Range 2 boxes.

Input Range | Input Range 1

Type in this box the range of cells containing the data you want to use as input for this command (first set of series).

Input Range 2

Type in this box the range of cells containing the data you want to use as input for this command (second set of series).

NoteOperations on multiple series do not require this range.

Series in Rows

Check this box to indicate that the data specified by the Input Range, Input Range 1 and Input Range 2 is organized in rows as opposed to columns (the default).

Refer to Specifying Input Arguments for additional information on this subject.

4.Select the location for the results:

New Workbook

Select this option to place the results of this operation in a new document workbook.

New Sheet

Select this option to place the results of this operation in a new worksheet.

Range Position

Select this option to place the results of this operation starting at the worksheet location specified in the box to the right of this option.

Refer to Specifying Output Locations for additional information on this subject.

5.Click OK to carry out the operation and close the dialog box, or click Cancel to cancel the operation and close the dialog box.
