Surrogate Data Generation dialog box |
![]() ![]() ![]() |
Use this dialog box to generate surrogate data from selected series.
Refer to Surrogate Production Methods for additional information on this subject.
Specifies the method used to generate the surrogate data.
Random Shuffle
Select this method to produce random shuffle surrogates.
Phase Randomized (FT)
Select this method to produce phase-randomized (also known as Fourier Transformed, FT) surrogates.
Gaussian Scaled (AAFT)
Select this method to produce Gaussian-scaled (also known as amplitude adjusted Fourier transformed, AAFT) surrogates.
Fourier Shuffled
Select this method to produce Fourier shuffled surrogates.
Iterated Amplitude Adjusted
Select this method to produce iterated amplitude adjusted, IAAFT, surrogates.
Multidimensional FT
Select this method to produce multi-dimensional phase-randomized (also known as Fourier transformed,FT) surrogates.
Specifies the number of surrogate series you want to create. Type in this box an integer number greater than zero and smaller than ^.
Input
Specifies the worksheet location of the input data for this operation.
Provides a reference to the extent of the data available in the currently active worksheet. Use this range as a guide for typing valid extents in the Input Range box.
Type in this box the range of cells containing the data you want to use as input for this command.
Check this box to indicate that the data specified by the Input Range is organized in rows as opposed to columns (the default).
Refer to Specifying Input Arguments for additional information on this subject.
Output
Specifies the worksheet location for placing the results of this operation.
Select this option to place the results of this operation in a new document workbook.
Select this option to place the results of this operation in a new worksheet.
Select this option to place the results of this operation starting at the worksheet location specified in the box to the right of this option.
Refer to Specifying Output Locations for additional information on this subject.
Options
Specifies the random number generator seed. You can type a seed of your preference in this box, or use a known seed to repeat previous outcomes.
Specifies the number of random shuffles that are applied for generating the surrogates.
![]() | This option is only available for the Random Shuffles and the Iterated Amplitude Adjusted (IAAFT) surrogates. |
Specifies the maximum number of iterations that will be used for approximating the Iterated Amplitude Adjusted (IAAFT) surrogates.
Check this box to specify you want to randomize for every selected series all the Gaussian realizations used for Gaussian-scaled (also known as amplitude adjusted Fourier transformed, AAFT) productions, otherwise, only one Gaussian realization template will be generated to use in producing the surrogates for all the input series.
![]() | This option is only available when the Gaussian Scaled (AAFT) method is selected. |
End Matching
Specifies the method that will be used to select matching end-points in the series.
Refer to windowed Fourier transformed (WFT) surrogates for additional information on this topic.
None
Select this option if no end-matching is desired.
Windowed
Select this option if you want to apply a window function to the data.
Refer to windowed Fourier transformed (WFT) surrogates for additional information on this topic.
Best Subsequence
Select this option if you want to avoid the caveats of producing surrogates on series with different end-points without having to apply a window function. In this case, a subsequence of at least Min. Search Size will be used to search the series for the closest available pair of end-points.
Specifies the window function that will be multipli to the data. If you do not want to apply a window function, set this option to None.
Refer to the Apply Window Function dialog box and to windowed Fourier transformed (WFT) surrogates for additional information on this subject.
![]() | This option is only available when the Windowed end-matching method is selected. |
When you select Dolph-Chebyshev or Kaiser in Window Type, you must specify an additional argument for the window function.
Refer to the Apply Window Function dialog box for additional information on this subject.
![]() | This option is only available when the Windowed end-matching method is selected. |
Specifies the length of the data window that will be used to search for a "best end-matching" subsequence in the data.
![]() | This option is only available when the Best Subsequence end-matching method is selected. |
Closes the dialog box and carries out this operation.
Closes the dialog box without carrying out this operation.
