In Predictive Systems Lab random distributions are achieved by generating uniformly distributed values which are mapped to a desired probability density through the distribution's inverse cumulative function, as shown in the figure above.

 

To generate uniformly distributed numbers, Predictive Systems Lab uses the Marsaglia, Zaman and Tsang (1987) algorithm with modifications as suggested by James (1990).
